Being aware of global politics in a country like America, where everything is very self-centered, is important. "MUN has helped me become more aware of global politics and is one of the few programs that can give students the opportunity to do so. I have developed strong public speaking skills, learned how to collaborate with others, and regained my confidence because of this impactful club." "Model United Nations has been an incredible experience that I have been proud to be a part of for the past year. “ Model UN has allowed me to become a better public speaker, gain leadership skills and the self confidence skills that I will need in my future This club has also taught me not to give up no matter how hard and impossible something may seem, and if I really want something I have to put in all the time, effort, and energy needed to make that dream a reality.” Becoming more self-aware and more knowledgeable is something I can hold in my heart forever.” With Model UN, I am stronger, more confident, and have made friends at every conference I’ve attended. I’ve been able to attain a more global view of world events and figure out ways to help the less fortunate. This club taught me how to move outside of my comfort zone and take risks. When I joined the club at the beginning of Sophomore year, I had no idea what to expect, as well as how to deal with my crippling fear of speaking in public. But the UN isn’t just about governments and. Sasha Masson (11), Director General of the Harker Model UN club, embraced the opportunity to try out a new committee as a judge, which involved reading many court cases and approaching the conference from a new perspective. Traveling to Model UN conferences not only helped me understand the perspectives of different countries, but even the differences with students from other regions. In preparation for the competition, delegates drafted ten-page position papers, where they each conducted research on the committee and country they were assigned for the NHSMUN conference. On Friday, students met with the official delegation from Albania and then proceeded with conference assemblies and committee sessions through Saturday and Sunday. As the second to last competition of the school year, this conference served as an essential connection between the members of the team. Harker’s attendees left for New York on March 8 and had the opportunity to sightsee around New York and spend time together as a team before the three-day conference.
